Knowing the Holy Ghost
Shirley

In this message, we consider our relationship with the Holy Ghost and whether we know the Holy Ghost in the same way that we know our Heavenly Father and our Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Through Old and New Testament passages, we can learn about the role, nature and impact that the Holy Ghost has in God’s plan including:

  • Prophesied in the Old Testament: Long before Pentecost, God promised through prophets like Joel and Ezekiel that He would pour out His Spirit, replace stony hearts with hearts of flesh, and enable His people to walk in His statutes.

  • Revealed in the New Testament: From overshadowing Mary and descending upon Jesus at His baptism, to being promised as our Comforter and Teacher, the Holy Ghost guides believers into all truth and intercedes for us in our weakness.

  • Active in the Believer: The Holy Ghost imparts diverse spiritual gifts for the profit of all and produces transforming fruit—such as love, joy, and peace.

  • A Gradual Process: Initially the Spirit rests on us and the power of the anointing works within us. This is done in part. Initially, this is experienced in part, with the ultimate promise to have the fullness of the Godhead dwelling bodily within us—as it does in Jesus—transforming and quickening our mortal bodies to be immortal.

  • A Spiritual Mother: We consider the reference in Galatians to Jerusalem above as our spiritual mother and explore whether the Holy Ghost fills that role as the comfort-giving, nurturing aspect of the Godhead.

We hope this message encourages you to consider the character of the Holy Ghost and vital role in God’s plan, as well as the life-giving features brought alongside the Father and the Son.
